From Frontline Distribution to the Boardroom: Two Decades in Corporate Affairs
Lessons from Khulna and Rajshahi frontlines to London global headquarters, fintech leadership at Nagad, and conglomerate governance at Abul Khair Group.
The most effective corporate affairs leaders are those who spent years in the field. When you understand how policy affects the truck driver, retail distributor, and consumer, your boardroom counsel carries unshakeable authority.
Starting my career in 2006 as a Territory Officer in Khulna, managing distribution routes and retail census data, taught me lessons no boardroom theory could replicate. I learned that every percentage point change in excise tax or statutory regulation directly impacts the livelihood of small shopkeepers and supply chain workers.
Over the next 17 years at BAT, transitioning from trade marketing into brand management, industry regulation, and ultimately Head of External Affairs (C-level), that frontline reality remained my anchor. Whether representing the company in London during global regulatory benchmarking or leading dialogues with the National Board of Revenue in Dhaka, the credibility of our counsel came from verifiable operational truth.
Later, stepping into fintech as Chief External Affairs Officer at Nagad, and currently directing Corporate Affairs & Legal at Abul Khair Group, the core principle remains unchanged: corporate affairs is about building bridges between public interest and industrial vitality.
